Your Privacy
This page explains, in plain words, what happens to information about you when you visit Cycle Charlotte. The short version is that very little is collected, and nothing is used to follow you around the web.
A static website
Cycle Charlotte is a collection of ready-made pages. There are no user accounts, no comment forms, no shopping basket and no database recording what you read. We do not run analytics software, advertising networks, social media plugins or tracking pixels, and we do not build visitor profiles.
Your cookie-banner choice
When you first arrive, a small banner asks for your preference. Whichever button you press, your answer is saved in your browser's local storage so the banner does not reappear on every page. That entry stays on your device, is never sent to us and contains nothing that identifies you. You can delete it at any time by clearing the site data in your browser settings. More detail is on Cookies, Briefly.
Hosting logs
Our pages reach your screen through a hosting company that we pay to serve them. To keep the service running and protect it from abuse, the provider's servers automatically record technical details of each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser type. These logs are processed on our behalf, used only for security and reliability, and deleted after a short period. We do not combine them with other data or use them to identify individual readers. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
When you email us
If you write to team@cyclecharlotte.org, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you choose to tell us. That information is used for one purpose: replying to you. We do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask to be added, and we do not pass your details to anyone else. Messages are deleted once the conversation is finished, unless we need to keep them briefly to follow up on a correction. Please do not send sensitive personal information.
The contact and newsletter forms on this site do not transmit anything themselves. They open your own email program with a prepared message, and nothing is sent until you press send there.
Links to other websites
Now and then an article points to a page elsewhere on the web. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy practices apply, and we have no control over them.
Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation and similar laws, you have the right to:
- find out whether we hold any personal data about you and get a copy of it;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- limit our use of it, or object to that use altogether;
- take your data with you in a common, machine-readable file;
- lodge a complaint with the privacy regulator where you live.
Just send a short email to the team address to exercise any of them. We will reply as promptly as we can and within the time limits the law sets.
Changes to this page
If the way the site works changes, for example if we ever add a feature that handles data differently, we will update this page first. Questions about it are welcome through the contact page.
