Cookies, Briefly

Cookie notices are often long because the sites behind them do a lot of tracking. Ours can be short, because this site does none.

What we store

Exactly one thing: your answer to the banner that appears on your first visit. When you choose to accept or decline, the browser saves that choice in its local storage, a small private space each website gets on your own device. Its only purpose is to stop the banner from popping up again on every page.

  • It does not contain your name, email or IP address.
  • It is never sent to us or to anyone else.
  • It stays until you clear it.

What we do not use

TypeUsed here?
Analytics or visitor statisticsNo
Advertising or retargeting cookiesNo
Social media buttons that track youNo
Login or session cookiesNo, there are no accounts

Choosing "decline" does not switch off any features, because there is nothing optional to switch off. Every page works exactly the same either way.

How to clear your choice

Open your browser's settings, look for the section on cookies and site data, find cyclecharlotte.org and remove its stored data. The banner will greet you again on your next visit. In a private browsing window, the choice disappears on its own as soon as that window is shut.

Why we chose to keep it this way

Measuring visitors would tell us which articles are popular, but it would also mean handing information about you to third parties or running extra scripts on every page. We decided the trade was not worth it. We learn what readers want from the emails they send, and the pages load faster without the extra baggage.

Should that ever change, for instance if we added a feature that needed to remember something more, this page and the banner would be updated first, and nothing optional would run until you agreed.

Other websites

Our articles occasionally send you on to pages run by others, and those sites may well set cookies of their own. Their rules apply once you are there, not ours.
