What Readers Ask
Some questions land in our inbox again and again. Here are the answers in one place, grouped loosely by theme.
About the magazine
Who is behind Cycle Charlotte?
A team of four writers using pen names. Each covers a different area, and every article is read by a second team member before it goes live. You can meet them on Who Writes Here.
Why do you cover so many different things?
Because free time is varied. One evening is a series, the next a repair job, the weekend a short trip. We would rather be a friendly general magazine than an expert on one narrow thing. About Cycle Charlotte sets out the full list of subjects.
Why do some articles mention brands or shops?
Because they came up in the topic. Suggestions are welcome too, and a brand named in a post is never a guarantee, so compare it with alternatives first.
Cycling
I have not ridden in years. Where should I start?
Get the bike checked, set the saddle to a comfortable height and pick a quiet route for your first outing. Our guide to adjusting your bike seat height covers the most important setting, and bike commuting tips for beginners helps if you want to ride to work.
Do I really need a helmet for short trips?
Laws differ between places, but we recommend wearing a certified, well-fitted helmet on every ride. Short trips on familiar streets are exactly when people relax their guard.
Can you recommend a particular bike or brand?
We do not name favorites. Instead, we explain what to look for so you can compare options in a shop or online.
Streaming and tech
Which streaming service should I use?
That depends on what you watch and where you live. We only discuss legal, licensed services, and we suggest checking availability in your country before signing up for anything.
Is a VPN legal?
In many countries, yes, but rules vary and a VPN does not change the terms of a streaming service. Check the law where you are and the provider's conditions.
Privacy and the site
Is my reading being recorded somewhere?
No. There are no analytics or advertising scripts. Details are on Your Privacy.
How do I suggest a correction or topic?
Email the team from the contact page. Include the page address if it is about an existing article.
